When viewed from this lens, the churches were attempting to re-engineer the selves of
aboriginal children, and they did so incompetently. They did not have the knowledge to take into
account the aboriginal memes already within the selves of the children, nor did they understand

By attaching “points” to various forms of sexual abuse, the IAP dehumanizes the residential school victims, reducing the egregious treatment of students to a numbers game. Further, this “points system” is inconsistent with well-established principles of tort law in that it eliminates consideration of the effects of the abuse on the victim.
